Date Night: “Lawrence of Arabia”
August 8 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
We continue our exclusive countdown of the American Film Institute’s Top 12 films of all time with No. 5, the epic of all epics, “Lawrence of Arabia,” which cemented director David Lean’s status in the filmmaking pantheon with nearly four hours of grand scope, brilliant performances, and beautiful cinematography.
This sweeping, highly literate historical epic covers the Allies’ mideastern campaign during World War I as seen through the eyes of the enigmatic T. E. Lawrence (Peter O’Toole, in the role that made him a star).
Two years in the making (you can see O’Toole’s weight fluctuate from scene to scene), the movie, released in 1962, filmed in Spain and Jordan, ended up costing a then-staggering $13 million and won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Also stars Omar Sharif, making one of the most spectacular entrances in movie history, Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, and Claude Rains.
You’ve never seen it on the big screen. Now’s your chance! Don’t miss it!
Thurs. Aug. 8, 7 pm Tickets, $10 comes with a complimentary glass of wine and a Kiss.
