Date Night: “On the Waterfront”
March 7 @ 7:00 pm
Brando is an out-of-work boxer whose involvement with the mob comes to a halt after he falls in love with a woman whose brother he helped to kill. It shows a glimpse of life in the harsh New Jersey docks under corrupt Mob union. Brando’s famous “I could’ve been a contender” line is said with bittersweet sadness to his brother, who let Brandon fail in order to make money with the mob.
The b/w film won eight Academy Awards including one for Brando—as deserved as any Oscar ever was—and of course, Best Picture, Screenplay, Director, Supporting Actress, Cinematography, Editing and Art Direction. Leonard Bernstein’s soundtrack should have taken home the gold, as well.
Don’t have a date? Don’t need one. Just don’t miss this marvel on the big screen!
Thurs. March 7, 7 pm. Tickets, $10. Your ticket also buys you a glass of wine or can of beer!
